In a remote, mostly mountainous region, water from the mountains flow into the waters of the Valbona River, famous for reported having the clearest river water in Albania. The town is named after Bajram Curri, a national hero of the early 20th century (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.) Between 1990 and 1992 Albania ended 46 years of xenophobic Communist rule and established a multiparty democracy.
